On May 13, 2025, NTPC Talcher Kaniha kick started the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025, a four-week long CSR initiative aimed at empowering 120 girls from 25 govt schools of neighboring villages. The program, running from May 13 to June 9, is designed to provide holistic development to these girls through education, extracurricular activities and Life skills. The program is being implemented in partnership with M/S Tanvi Consultancy Services Pvt Limited, Bhubaneswar, the agency offering a range of consulting services, including HR and CSR.

The inaugural ceremony was held on May 13, 2025, with a welcome address by Shri Navneet Kumar, HOHR, who extended a warm welcome to all attendees.

Distinguished guests at the event included Shri Arindam Sinha, RED (ER-II), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest; Smt. Rupali Sinha, President, Vasudha Mahila Mandal; Shri K. Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director, NTPC Talcher Kaniha; and other officials from NTPC.

Shri K. Narasimha Reddy expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters of the GEM 2025 initiative, acknowledging their contributions to the program’s success.

Shri Arindam Sinha, RED (ER-II), emphasized the importance of initiatives like GEM in empowering girls and breaking societal barriers.

During the program, previous batch GEM girls shared their experiences with the school principals. Two GEM students from the previous batches were felicitated for their achievements: Ankita Pradhan, Class IX, for securing 7th position in the district out of the top ten scholarships in the State Government Mathematics Olympiad; second, Dumni Hansda, Class IX, for securing 1st position in state athletics and being selected to participate in the national level SGFI. She was also selected by the State Olympic Association for the national games.

The ceremony also featured the unveiling of a digital version of Odia GEM comic book by RED (ER-II), aimed at educating young minds about social issues and the importance of community development. Additionally, a cultural program was also organized. “
